Growing guide for Scottish White Thistle ‘Onopordum Acanthium’

Plant the seeds in any free draining compost.
Best time is from Autumn onwards and to keep the pots outside until growth starts in late winter to spring.
Once the seedlings have 4-6 leaves they can be potted into larger pots or even better to plant in the garden in their final growing position.
They grow slowly for the first year and don’t get the full height until the second year when they can top an impressive 3 meters or 10foot.
They tend to be a bit top heavy so a stout wooded stake is advised to hold the base of the stem to avoid the plant being blown over.
